KHM 88 by Brothers Grimm, Illustrated by Pauli Ebner
Star Money is number 88 in the most famous collection of fairy tales, yet it is not a fairy tale. It's a moral story about a girl who is so poor she has nothing but her clothes on. while she wanders around not knowing when she will have a chance to eat or sleep, somebody gives her a piece of bread.
The girl immediately gives away bread to somebody she believes is in even greater need. She continues giving away pieces of her clothes until she finally gives away her undergarments to somebody who is already naked. This means she continuously bumps into people who are in even worse positions than her until she finally stays without everything. Literally everything.
While she is without any dress herself, one moment she realizes a new dress materializes on her and stars start falling from the sky.
Each star that touches the ground transforms into a silver tolar. (Tolar is a silver coin, something like a silver dollar which is still remembered by older Americans.) The girl takes the money and her material problems are solved once and for all.
